Homeschool Environmental Education Programming

Asbury Woods is thrilled to offer engaging programs with homeschooled students in mind! Families who participate in these programs can expect fun, hands-on learning experiences at Asbury Woods, pre-lessons to prepare students for their visit, and suggestions for extension activities. Programs with “EE” next to them address Pennsylvania state Environment and Ecology Standards. Parents may drop children off or choose to stay with them regardless of age.

Upcoming Programs

You can sign up for one of the programs below or get a group together and schedule a private lesson. Each of the programs below are 2-hour program for children in K-5th grades. If you have a group of children older than 5th grade, please contact us for additional options. Each child will get a certificate for their portfolio at the end of the program.

 

January 22nd- Forest Management


Learn about forest land management through various games to understand what causes wildfires, their
impact, and how we can prevent them. If the weather holds, we will also have a simple hike to observe
why biodiversity helps this process

February 12th / 19th – Wintertime Survival

Learn about the ins and outs of furs, feathers, migration, and physical wintertime adaptations that help
animals survive. We will also learn basic fire building, followed by a sweet surprise as part of the
program.

March 19th / 26th – Trees, Trees, Trees!

The sap is flowing, and the trees are budding. Let’s explore! We’ll inspect the maple tree life cycle, and
practice basic tree surveying skills that foresters use, like reading tree cookies.

April 23rd / 30th – Bugs & Amphibians

It's Spring, and our ecosystems are coming back to life after a long winter. Let’s inspect who's been
hanging out in our bug snugs, what creatures are awake in our vernal pools, and more! The more we
find, the better it is for our ecosystems.
